NUMBER 5:

Emblem3 is an American reggae-pop band from Washington, consisting of brothers Wesley and Keaton Stromberg. They signed with Simon Cowell's (like One Direction) record label Syco Records and Columbia Records after finishing 4th on the second season of The X Factor USA. They launched their debut album called "Nothing to lose" on 2013 with Drew Chadwick, who later left the band, leaving E3's future uncertain.

They did a little tour and also performed at multiple festivals. They have done shows with many other artists like Jack & Jack (from Magcon, friends of Shawn Mendes) and they have a song with them called "Cheat codes".

They have a studio album, two extended plays and two singles with videos.

On The X Factor they performed good old songs like "Hey Jude" by The Beatles, "No One" by Alicia Keys and "Forever Young" by Alphaville.

NUMBER 4:

5 Seconds of Summer -abreviated as 5SOS- is an Australian pop-punk band formed in Sidney and consists of Luke Hemmings (lead vocals. guitar), Michael Clifford (guitar, vocals), Calum Hood (bass guitar, vocals) and Ashton Irwin (drums, vocals). They were youtube celebrities, posting videos of themselves covering songs. They toured with One Direction on the Take me Home Tour where they opened their shows.

They cite bands like McFly, Blink182, Green Day and Busted as their influencies.

5SOS became popular when a member of One Direction, Louis Tomlinson, posted the link to their youtube video of their song "Gotta get out" saying that he'd been a fan of 5SOS "for a while". The connection between 5sos and One Direction extends to both artists being managed by London based Modest management. This has led to 5sos being called a boy band in the media. Unlike many boys bands, they write their songs, play their own instruments and they are not a dance group.

They have one studio album, six extended plays, five singles and eight music videos. Also, on 15 December 2014, the band announced their first live slbum, LIVESOS. Now, they're doing new music and launched "She's kida hot", the first single of their second album.

NUMBER 3:

Victorian Loren "Tori" Kelly (born December, 1992) is and American singer and songwritter who slowly gained recognition after starting to post videos on youtube at the age of 14. When she was 16, she auditioned for the singing competition tv series American Idol. After being eliminated if the show, Kelly began to work on her own music. In 2012, she launched her first EP that she produced, wrote and mixed herself, called "Handmade songs by Tori Kelly". Scooter Braun (manages a lot of singers like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande) became her manager and introduced her to Capitol Records. Also, she can play the piano, drums and the guitar.

NUMBER 2:

Shawn Peter Raul Mendes (born August 8,1998) is a Canadian singer. He began posting song covers on the popular video sharing application Vine. He caught the attention of Andrew Gertler and Island Records A&R Ziggy Chareton which led to him signing a deal with the record label and he realised his first single "Life of the Party" there.

Mendes toured as a member of the MagCon Tour where other young artists like Nash Grier and Cameron Dallas became popular. He was also on a tour with Austin Mahone as an opening act and recorded his EP. Now he is touring with Taylor Swift with his album debut called "Handwritten".

He did a song as featured artist with the band The Vamps, called "Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart)" and he is a friend of Ed Sheeran too.

NUMBER 1:

Edward Christopher Sheeran (born 17 February 1991) is and English singer-songwritter and musician. In early 2011, Sheeran did an independent extended play, "No. 5 Collaborations project", which caught the attention of both Elton John and Jamie Foxx: then he signed with Asylum Records.

Sheeran popularity abroad began in 2012. He made a guest appereance on Taylor Swift's album and wrote songs for One Direction. On 2013 Grammy Awards, he performed "The A team" with Elton John. Also, he performed 3 sold out concerts at Madison Square Garden and Wembley Stadium.

He started touring with Taylor Swift, where he opened her shows. Then he did his own tours called "+ Tour" and "x Tour".

THE 'BEATLEMANIA'

Who hasn’t heard of the "Beatlemania" or about Abbey Road? Or has never seen the Yellow Submarine?

Let’s be honest, there is a chance that you may have not heard or seen anything about these four great men who changed the history of music. If you know nothing about them, in this article you'll find out everything you have to know.

The Beatles is a British group of rock and pop music, integrated in 1961 by John Lennon (1940 – 1980), Paul McCartney (Liverpool, 1942), George Harrison (1943 – 2001) and Ringo Starr (Liverpool, 1940).

In the second half of the 1950s, John Lennon and his friend Peter Shotton formed a band and they called it The Quarrymen, to which Paul McCartney was added in 1957, followed by George Harrison.

Finally they added a drummer, Peter Best, and got to play a concert in Hamburg. Best left the band because of disagreements with the rest of its members and was replaced by Ringo Starr. 

The formation of The Beatles was definitively consolidated with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. 

In 1962, after listening to a performance, producer Brian Epstein hired them to record a single. This first album was titled “Love me do” and managed to place in the charts in the UK. As early as 1963, “Please, please me”, “From me to you” and “She loves you” would reach -again- positions of honor in the British charts.

That year can be considered the birth of the “Beatlemania”, a phenomenon of idolatry to the group. The “Beatlemania” was extended a year later to the United States, where issues like Love me do, She loves you or I want to hold your hand reached the top spot in the charts.

The Beatles shot several films, most notably: What night of that day! (1964) and Yellow Submarine (1968).

In 1967 they would launch their revolutionary work ‘Sgt. Pepper’s lonely Hearts Club Band’, an album that marked the birth of psychedelic music. 

Following the publication of “Le it be”, in 1970, the disagreements in training ended with the dissolution of the band and each member continued their musical career as soloists. 

The murder of John Lennon by a disturbed fan in 1980 had great impact worldwide.

The Beatles’ influence over the decades has been immense. It represents a lifestyle that fits perfectly with the deep concerns of 1960’s youth.

In our opinion, the Beatles are fantastic because their songs carry messages of peace and love for humanity; in addition to having participated in many charity events, donating millions to foundations. The best of all is that the Beatles is still famous worldwide and heard by generations of people for their messages of love and peace, despite their separation in 1970 and the death of two of its members. 

Their music is still alive!

JI,JI,JI

Los Redondos de Ricota is a band originated in La Plata, Argentina, in 1976. The three pillars were: The "Indio" Solari (voice and guitar), "Skay" Beilinson (guitar) and Carmen Castro (manager), then Ricardo Cohen (artistic director) joined. This band remained independent during its 25 years of activity becoming a band that doesn't need help from the media to be successful. Throughout the years, it became more and more popular and thousands of teenagers formed an army of fans.

In 1986 they launched a CD named "Oktubre" which contained the musical theme ‘JI JI JI’. This song became famous and has been sung by several artists. The lyrics are a bit strange; so we decided to investigate its full background.

The song tells the story of six girls that lived in a flat together. They were like roommates. 

One night, as they used to do very often, they decided to go dancing. They all agreed, except one of them that was feeling tired and refused the invitation.

The five girls went dancing and had a blast. But their faces of joy changed when they returned home. 

There were many policemen at their door, and lots of neighbors trying to look inside. 

When they saw what had happened, their most terrible fears and fobias became alive. 

Their friend, the one that had stayed at home, was dismembered on her bed, obviously dead. 

On the wall, there was a terrible message written in blood: ‘Thanks for not turning on the lights’.

This story was the band’s inspiration for the song called ‘Ji-Ji-Ji’. Here’s a translation of its lyrics:

ELECTRONIC MUSIC: THE EXCITING 80s

The end of the 70’s brought the start of different music styles inside the electronic world. The outlook duplicated by the lower price of electronics like the synthesizer, that evolved from the analogue model to a digital one, and the Samplers. Electronic music became accessible to everyone, which made it a popular genre. 

If in the 70’s Roxy music, Jean Michell Jarre, Vangelis or Kraftwerk had represented the electronic genre, the 80’s were characterized by the number of bands that used the synthesizer, like Duran Duran.

                                   

In 1979, Synthpop was born with the first record of Orchestral Manouvres in the Dark “Electricity” and its first single with the same name. This inspired many groups. 

Despite the progress, some bands like Depeche Mode used a darker musical genre.

                                                                    

Electro music TODAY

Commonly, electronic music is labeled nowadays as “very good”. But as time goes by, the genre varies and can be misunderstood.

It lost some value on its name because, basically, almost all musical genres -like hip hop or pop- use electronic music, especially in songs released since 2011-2012 onwards

Also, we could say that electronic music can seem repetitive. Obviously, each song uses different types of sounds but most of them can be heard similar.

Today, electronic music has grown from an underground niche into one of the biggest genres in the world. Actually, electronic music festivals are now a new trend.

It all started with the Ultra Music Festival.

Since 1999, in March, Miami celebrates with the most prestigious and famous DJs.

But Tomorrowland might be the most popular one. The journey began on August 14th 2005 with the presence of Coone, Yves Deruyter, DJ Ghost, Cor Fijneman and Armin van Buuren. It is held in Summer every year, changing locations and bringing thousands of fans from all over the world together.

THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF MUSIC: THE THRILLING 80'S

The 80's decade was very important because there were a lot of changes in music. The characteristic genre was the disco music. This type of music is just for dancing, quite opposite from classical music.

There were a lot of discos; friends and couples went dancing at night, having a lot of fun. The 80's are commonly remembered for an increase in the use of digital recording and also electronic genre with non-traditional instruments, like techno, electro and house, among others. Besides, the most outstanding musicians were Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Axl Rose, Aerosmith, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Whitney Houston, Queen, Depeche Mode, Billie Joe, Oasis, Pink Floyd and Bonnie Tyler, just to name a few.

Pop music also generated a great shaking in the world of music in that time. Pop it's a genre of popular music that originated in the late 1950's as an outgrowth of "Rock & Roll", in combination with other musical genres that were in vogue at the time.

In the 60's, the introduction of radios and portable receivers meant that teenagers could listen to music outside home. In the early 80's, the promotion of pop music nurtured the rise of programs and musical TV channels like MTV, which favored artists such as Michael Jackson and Madonna who had a strong visual appeal.

Speaking of controversial artists, we will talk about one of the most recognized over time: Michael Jackson.

The King of Pop

Michael Joseph Jackson (Gary, Indiana August 29, 1958 - Los Angeles, California, June 25, 2009) better known as Michael Jackson, was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, actor, producer and entrepreneur. Known as the ‘King of Pop’, his contributions to music and dance, as well as his publicized personal life, made him an international figure in popular culture for over four decades, being recognized as the star of the most successful pop music worldwide.

He began his artistic career in the mid 1960's in the musical group "The Jackson 5" with which he published with some of his siblings, ten albums until 1975. In 1971 he started his career as a soloist although he continued belonging to the group. Due to the success of his album "Thriller" (1982), the best-selling disco in history, he became the biggest star in pop music at the time.

On the morning of June 25, 2009, Michael suffered from a cardiac arrest at his rented mansion in Holmby Hills. The public funeral was held on July 7, 2009 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, before a memorial service for family and friends was held. The public ceremony was followed live by about 2,500 million people worldwide.

His death was very controversial. On February 8, 2010, the court charged Murray, his personal doctor with ‘involuntary manslaughter’. The accused, who pleaded ‘not guilty’ of all charges, paid a bail of $ 75,000 for not entering prison. In 2011, Murray was sentenced to serve four years in prison for the manslaughter of Jackson. The doctor only served half the time in prison and was released in 2013 as part of a state plan to reduce overcrowding in detention centers.

After his death, Michael Jackson became the biggest selling artist in 2009 in the US, where more than 8.2 million albums were sold, while in the rest of the world it sold more than 35 million albums during the twelve months after his death.

Although he may not be physically among us anymore, his legacy continues to grow and, -as many people commonly say- 'he sings better every day'.
